Long weekend

Three days in Maastricht

The centre, the hill and the museums, with enough time to see friends and sit down between visits.

Day one: the old centre

Arrive through Wyck and walk across Sint Servaasbrug. Choose Dominicanen or a basilica as the main interior, then continue towards the Jekerkwartier. Keep the afternoon loose enough for vlaai and a walk by the walls. Dinner in the centre puts Brusselsestraat within an easy continuation for drinks.

Day two: Sint Pieter

Give the hill its own part of the day. Choose a guided cave or fort visit before booking; they are separate experiences. Add an outdoor walk if the weather suits. Return to town with time to change plans for dinner instead of arranging a second timed attraction immediately after the tour.

Day three: the east bank or Sphinx

For art, choose Bonnefanten and a riverside walk through Céramique. For city history, choose Maastricht Museum. If you prefer to stay outdoors, head north to Sphinxpassage, the Bassin and Frontenpark. Any of those can fill the final half-day without trying to finish every remaining address.

Make the dates work

Move the museum day if your stay includes Monday and the venue is closed. Put booked tours on the day with the most flexibility around them. Check your return journey before deciding on a late screening at Lumière; a long weekend should not end with a hurried walk to the station.
