Walking guides

Maastricht walks and self-guided routes

Riverside loops, city walls and the former factory district, with time for stops along the way.

Choose a part of town

The river loop is a useful first walk because it connects both banks. The walls route keeps you around the Jeker and park. The industrial walk goes north from Markt into Sphinx. Pick the one closest to what you want to do afterwards instead of crossing town to begin a second itinerary.

Allow time for the stops

The walking itself is only part of the visit. A bookshop, a church interior or lunch can easily take longer than the distance between them. Our time allowances are planning suggestions rather than measured completion times. Follow local signs around works, closed paths and event areas.

Longer days outside

Sint Pieter needs more time than the central loops, especially if you combine it with a booked underground tour. Start with the hill when that is the main outing. Keep the old centre for food afterwards rather than trying to fit a full museum morning in first.
